Educación contra el prejuicio: caso aplicado al Periodismo

Resumen

El estudio de los prejuicios, entendidos como actitudes negativas que nacen de creencias, resulta particularmente interesante al conectar los campos de la educación y la comunicación, pues estos dos ámbitos son decisivos tanto para combatir como para amplificar los prejuicios. Esta investigación analiza los prejuicios en el marco de la docencia universitaria del periodismo. Para ello se han estudiado durante cinco cursos académicos (entre 2016 y 2021) las afinidades y opiniones de 500 alumnos de Periodismo en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Se ha realizado un muestreo estratificado con afijación uniforme, sin reposición, en el que cada estrato es uno de los años lectivos. Para el cálculo del tamaño muestral se fijó un intervalo de confianza del 95% y un margen de error del 2,7%. A partir de un conflicto de apariencia banal y sin vinculación con debates clásicos de naturaleza ideológica, los alumnos respondieron a un cuestionario elaborado para cuantificar el grado de conexión entre simpatías personales previas y juicios periodísticos. La investigación ha ideado también una sencilla intervención pedagógica con la que neutralizar en lo posible el efecto de los prejuicios en la actividad periodística. Esta intervención se aplicó solo a un grupo experimental (50% de los alumnos) para poder comparar resultados. Las respuestas de los estudiantes revelan que existe una estrecha relación entre sus simpatías previas y los juicios periodísticos que formulan. La presencia de prejuicios se muestra con mucha más claridad en los alumnos que parten de actitudes afectivas o emocionales negativas (rechazo, antipatía o miedo, por ejemplo). También es en ese grupo donde más efectiva resulta la intervención pedagógica ideada para combatir los prejuicios.
